A brightly painted seaside village at the foot of Mount Brandon.
Cloghane (An Clochán) is a small, brightly painted village where the Owenmore river meets Brandon Bay, at the foot of Mount Brandon. The name comes from clochán, the dry stone huts found across this part of Kerry.
It is a Gaeltacht village, so you will hear Irish spoken and see it on the signs, and it sits on both the Wild Atlantic Way and the Dingle Way walking trail. O’Connor’s bar has been the heart of the village for generations: turf fire, seafood and trad sessions, with tables outside on sunny days.
The village is the traditional starting point of the pilgrim climb up Mount Brandon, and the Faha trailhead is about ten minutes away by car. The estuary walk to Fermoyle Strand starts at the pier.
Cloghane and neighbouring Brandon are twinned with Plozévet in Brittany. In late July the Pattern Festival fills the street with music and racing. From our homes in the village you can walk down for an evening pint and be back before dark.
