People who search for a house to rent in Castlegregory usually mean one of two things: a home for a week or two by the sea, or somewhere to live. We only do the first. This is what a holiday let in Castlegregory looks like in practice, which of our seven houses here suits which kind of trip, and the small things worth knowing before you book.
A holiday let, not a lease
Our houses are let by the night for stays from two or three nights to a few weeks. The price covers the whole house, bed linen, towels, Wi-Fi, parking and the cleaning at the end. There is no deposit against a lease, no utility bills and no inventory to sign; you get a lockbox code before you travel and let yourself in from 4pm. If you are looking for a house in Castlegregory for six months or a year, a letting agent in Tralee is the right call, and we cannot help with that.
Where the houses are
Our holiday homes in Castlegregory are spread between the village, the Maharees spit that runs north from it, and Aughacasla a few minutes east along Tralee Bay. The village has pubs with music in summer, a shop, takeaways and the Blow-In Café, and Castlegregory Beach is a twelve minute walk from the centre. The Maharees have a beach on each side, surf and kitesurf schools on the Brandon Bay side and calmer water on the Tralee Bay side, so there is always a sheltered one.
Which house for which trip
A big family or two families together. Bedrock House sleeps ten in five bedrooms, five minutes from the golf links and six from the village by car. It is the one we suggest when the group needs its own space at either end of the day.
A beach week with children. Elfin House on the Maharees sleeps eight, with the beach about fourteen minutes on foot. At Aughacasla, Woodside also sleeps eight and East Bay and West Bay sleep six each, with the shore of Tralee Bay twelve to eighteen minutes away on foot and flat ground for buggies and bikes.
Walking to the pub. Lough Gill Lake House sleeps seven and is nine minutes on foot from the village, with the lake behind and the beach a longer walk the other way.
A couple or a small group who want quiet. The Swallow sleeps five on the hill below the Conor Pass, five minutes by car from Cloghane village and eight from the sand at Cappagh. The only neighbours are sheep, and the view is the whole of Brandon Bay.
Minimum stays and the summer
Outside the summer most of our Castlegregory houses take stays of two or three nights. In July and August the minimum is longer and the most popular houses are often let Saturday to Saturday, so a mid-week arrival may not be possible then. The calendar on each house page shows the minimum for your dates and the live total before you commit to anything.
Dogs
Some of the Castlegregory houses take a dog and some do not, and the number and the charge differ by house. Elfin House, Bedrock House and The Swallow do not take pets. Woodside takes up to two dogs and Lough Gill one, each with a pet charge. East Bay and West Bay take one small dog by arrangement only, so send an enquiry before booking. The rule is on each house page, and the homes that take dogs are listed on our pet-friendly page.
Booking direct
Open the house, choose your dates and the number of guests, and the page shows the price for the whole stay. You can pay by card online or send a request to the local team if you have a question first. There is no booking fee, and the direct price is below the Airbnb price for the same dates. The full list is on our page of self catering holiday homes in Kerry, and if Castlegregory turns out not to be the right village, our guide to choosing between the villages covers the rest.
