Ballybunion’s great sea stack rising off the Ladies Beach.
Virgin Rock is the great sea stack standing just off Ballybunion’s Ladies Beach, carved from the same black cliffs that frame the town. At low tide you can walk the sand almost to its base; from the cliff path above it is the classic Ballybunion photograph, with surfers and swimmers threading past below. Legend ties the rock to the nuns of the old abbey, and it has watched over the beach for as long as anyone can remember.
