Our houses in Camp are Slate Cottage, a restored stone cottage above the road with views of the bay, and The Old Post Cottage in the village, next door to a café. Both can be booked direct, for less than the same dates cost on Airbnb.
Ashe’s bar and the Junction are the village locals; West Kerry Trekking rides horses along the Dingle Way; Inch Beach and its surf school are half an hour over the hill, and the Cross at Slea Head makes a classic day drive west.
Camp: the gateway to the peninsula
Camp is the first village on the Dingle Peninsula coming from Tralee, where the N86 meets the mountain road south to Annascaul and Inch. That makes it the easiest of our villages to reach and the best placed for a holiday that uses both coasts: Tralee Bay and the north side beaches one day, Inch and Dingle the next. The village has two pubs, a café and a shop, and the Slieve Mish mountains start straight behind it.
Our two homes here, Slate Cottage for five and The Old Post Cottage for four, are small by choice: couples, a family with young children, or two friends walking the Dingle Way. Beaches: Derrymore and Inch
Derrymore Strand is the local beach, five or six minutes by car towards Tralee: sand under the Slieve Mish, a public car park, and the Derrymore Island nature reserve beside it where shore birds gather at high tide. For surf and a longer day, Inch on the south coast is under half an hour, and the Brandon Bay beaches beyond Castlegregory about twenty minutes.
The Dingle Way from Camp
The Dingle Way passes through the village, so you can walk a stage from the door: east towards Tralee along the foot of the Slieve Mish, or west towards Annascaul over the hill. West Kerry Trekking rides the same trail on horseback. Our walks guide has times and starting points for the bigger hikes further out.
Food and pubs
The Old Post Cottage has a café next door, and Ashe’s and the Junction are a short walk for a pint and a plate. Tralee, 21 minutes away, has the supermarkets and the wider choice of restaurants. Our eat and drink guide covers the villages further west.
